Wheel alignment vs balancing: what's the difference?
Jawwy Garage · 2 October 2026
Wheel alignment and wheel balancing fix different problems. Learn the symptoms, how each is done, how long it takes and what it costs.
Two services that are often confused
Wheel alignment and wheel balancing are both done on the wheels, both help your tyres last longer, and both are often done together — so it is easy to mix them up. But they solve different problems.
In short: alignment is about the angle of the wheels; balancing is about the weight around each wheel.
What wheel alignment does
Alignment adjusts the angles at which your wheels meet the road — known as camber, caster and toe. When these angles are correct, the car drives straight, the steering wheel sits centred and each tyre touches the road evenly.
Alignment goes out over time and especially after hitting a pothole, speed bump or kerb, or after suspension and steering work. Signs you need it include the car pulling to the left or right, a steering wheel that is off-centre when driving straight, and tyres wearing faster on the inner or outer edge.
At Jawwy Garage, wheel alignment starts from AED 80 and takes 20–40 minutes using computerised alignment equipment.
What wheel balancing does
No tyre and wheel is perfectly even in weight. Balancing spins each wheel on a machine to find heavy spots, then adds small counterweights so the wheel turns smoothly.
An unbalanced wheel causes vibration that usually appears at higher speeds — often around 80–120 km/h — and you may feel it through the steering wheel, the seat or the floor. Over time it also causes patchy tyre wear and extra strain on suspension parts.
Wheel balancing starts from AED 60 and takes about 20 minutes.
Which one do you need?
Pulling to one side or uneven edge wear: alignment. Vibration at speed: balancing. New tyres fitted: balancing always, and an alignment check is recommended so the new tyres wear evenly from day one.
If you are not sure, describe what you feel on WhatsApp at +971 52 320 6777, or use the service finder on our homepage. Our team checks the car before recommending work, and you approve the quote first.
How often to check
Have alignment checked about once a year, whenever you replace tyres, and after any hard knock to a wheel. Balance wheels whenever tyres are fitted or moved, or as soon as you notice vibration. Combining these with tyre rotation every 8,000–10,000 km is the simplest way to get the most kilometres from your tyres in UAE conditions.
Our workshop is in Ras Al Khor Industrial Area 1, Dubai, open Saturday to Thursday, 7:00 AM to 9:15 PM.
